AI Personal Finance Assistance: Friend or Foe?

AIChatbot

Our society is still trying to figure out the contexts in which it is appropriate to trust AI chatbots. When we order at the Taco Bell drive through, the chatbot usually gets our order right, but on the other hand, the price of Taco Bell food has not decreased since the chatbots came to town, so they are not really adding value to our experience. Professors fume when we enlist Chat GPT to write our assignments for us, but they squeal with delight over the gorgeous graphics it generates for our Power Point slides. AI generated writing sounds professional on the surface; it takes authoritative sounding diction and remixes it into something that is original. The problem is that it does so unthinkingly; it cannot tell the difference between a bibliographic citation that lists a real page of a real book that references the piece of information that it just cited and one that only bears a superficial resemblance to a genuine bibliographic reference. When you ask AI for advice, it will respond in its capacity as a smooth talker. Therefore, whether you should ask depends on whether smooth talk suffices in your situation, or whether your question requires a more textured response. If personal finance chatbots have given you the runaround, or conversely, if they sound convinced that you should make a financial decision that seems risky to your human conscience, and you need a human to help you get out of debt, contact a Boca Raton debt lawyer.

Chatbots Can Ask You Questions About Your Personal Finance Questions Until They Figure Out What You are Asking

Large language models are just what you need when you have limited time to scroll through search results, much less listen to entire audiobooks, but you want to think about the big picture about personal finance in general. They can tell you about how adjustable-rate mortgages work while you wait at the bus stop in the Florida sun. Chatbots can also act as conversation partners about financial “what if” scenarios. They can even walk you through a detailed flight of fancy about what might happen this year, next year, and the year after, and so on, if you borrowed the adjustable-rate mortgage that you had been discussing with your loan officer. If the chatbot’s judgments differ from the loan officer’s, you can ask it how it reached its judgments, but it is better if you also ask the loan officer the same questions.

Chatbots Cannot Co-Sign for The Loans They Advise You to Borrow

The biggest problem with asking chatbots for financial advice is that, while they can pretend to understand the context, they cannot feel financial stress the way that you do. They will not be responsible for their actions if you end up in worse financial shape by following their advice.
